Dr. Saraswathy Battar, with 29 years of service in the Veterans Health Administration, is a dedicated physician leader, constructive difference maker, and effective change agent. Her impactful work spans roles in serving veterans, creating critical policies, and excelling as an educator and clinician.

 

As a board-certified physician in geriatrics, hospice, and palliative care, Dr. Battar has positively impacted thousands of veterans through executive leadership and providing exceptional bedside care. Her innovative VIONE methodology for safe medication optimization has received national and international awards. Dr. Battar's contributions extend beyond direct patient care. She spearheaded end-of-life care curricula across 30 VA medical centers and established best practices for communication in healthcare. As the interim Chief of Staff at the Marion, Illinois VA Medical Center, she successfully addressed performance issues through collaboration and effective leadership.

 

Recognized with awards for excellence, including induction into the Palliative Care Hall of Fame and Federal Employee of the Year, Dr. Battar has left a lasting impact on healthcare. Her achievements benefit VA recipients, co-workers, and over 625,000 veterans. She has improved care quality, reduced unnecessary medications, and enhanced patient safety. Dr. Battar's contributions have raised the standard of healthcare services and bolstered the reputation of the US government.

 

Dr. Battar's self-submission reflects her unique knowledge and comprehensive understanding of her contributions throughout her career. She remains grateful for the mentorship and support she has received and serves as an inspiration for future generations.
