The Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) has successfully redesigned its 14 public websites, improving access to program information and enhancing the user experience for key HRSA audiences. The project aimed to meet Plain Language guidelines, remove outdated content, improve mobile usability, and ensure compliance with government regulations such as the 21st Century Integrated Digital Experience Act (IDEA).
Each website underwent a separate project, with the team conducting research, developing content, and integrating new features. The user-centric approach, informed by metrics and web survey data, resulted in streamlined navigation, an enhanced program search, and an expanded funding section based on user feedback. The team eliminated 5,000 outdated pages and files, leading to improved search rankings and a 37% increase in search referrals to HRSA's sites.
The redesigned grants funding section now allows applicants to easily access funding opportunities, determine eligibility, and follow application steps. This improved user experience attracts more high-quality grantees who can better serve the American people.
The achievements of the HRSA Office of Communications (OC) Web Team have directly enhanced the mission and goals of the agency, with increased page views, referrals, and mobile traffic. The revamped sites provide a more user-friendly and informative experience, benefiting the public by facilitating access to HRSA programs and resources.
