Steven Jones is being honored as the Lifetime Achievement for Delivering Services to Citizens for more than two decades of leadership transforming how the Department of Defense tracks and uses environmental and occupational exposure information to protect Service Members and Veterans. As the functional lead for the Individual Longitudinal Exposure Record (ILER) and a driving force behind DOEHRS-IH, Steven helped establish the policies, partnerships, and enterprise capabilities that made lifelong exposure tracking a DoD priority.

Steven championed the evolution of exposure data from raw industrial hygiene records into clinically meaningful Potential Hazard summaries that healthcare providers and benefits adjudicators can use. He drove integration between ILER, MHS GENESIS, and VA systems, ensuring exposure information follows Service Members from active duty into Veteran status. He also supported Personal ILER, giving Service Members direct access to their exposure records for the first time.

Today, more than 12.5 million Service Members and Veterans have longitudinal exposure records, with ILER containing 118.3 million deployment exposure records. MHS GENESIS provides access to more than 18 million exposure summaries, while approximately 207,000 summaries flow automatically to VA’s benefits system each month, helping accelerate disability determinations. Personal ILER has also generated more than 3,000 accounts. Through decades of sustained advocacy, Steven has helped transform fragmented exposure tracking into an integrated capability serving more than 60,000 daily users and strengthening healthcare, research, and benefits delivery for millions of Service Members and Veterans.
