James "JJ" Eden and the North Carolina Turnpike Authority (NCTA) are being honored in Category 4: Using Innovative Technologies to Deliver Simple, Seamless, and Secure Services for transforming toll-road services through secure, customer-centered technology. Under JJ’s leadership, NCTA pioneered all-electronic tolling in North Carolina, eliminating traditional toll booths and creating safer, more efficient free-flow travel for motorists.
JJ has continued to modernize toll collection and customer account systems through secure, cloud-based platforms that improve billing accuracy, transparency, reliability, and ease of use.
