Abraham Marinez is being honored in Category 4: Using Innovative Technologies to Deliver Simple, Seamless, and Secure Services for leading major AI-driven improvements at Federal Student Aid (FSA), making services faster, more accessible, and easier to navigate for 43 million customers. He directed the development of Aidan v2, FSA’s first public-facing generative AI chatbot, which has supported 12.8 million users, increased positive feedback from 14% to 40%, and generated $28 million in cost avoidance. He also spearheaded a voice-AI pilot involving 60,000 calls, projected to reduce cost per call by 70%, and championed an adjudication automation solution designed to accelerate decisions for hundreds of thousands of borrowers.
Across these initiatives, Abraham has emphasized human-centered design, rigorous user testing, security, and responsible AI implementation. His work provides borrowers with faster 24/7 assistance, reduces wait times, improves service quality, and allows employees to focus on more complex customer needs. He also established an AI Community of Practice to build employee capabilities and support FSA’s long-term digital transformation.
