Chad Sheridan is being recognized for his efforts to improve the experience that farmers, ranchers and producers have with the US Department of Agriculture. Chad was the creative visionary behind farmers.gov, the transactional website that enables farmers, ranchers and producers to more efficiently discover USDA program information in simple terms, locate USDA service centers nearby, and complete forms and applications online. The central objective of the portal is to free up valuable time for USDA’s customers and more easily enable them to obtain the services and information they need, so they can focus on the important task of running, maintaining and expanding their businesses. The portal is the first edition of a secure online environment for farmers, ranchers and producers to manage their FPAC interactions and farm initiatives from wherever they are, and whenever needed.
Farmers.gov provides thorough, clear and easily accessible information that USDA customers want and need, including interactive discovery tools that ask simple questions to identify personalized results for USDA lending and disaster assistance programs. USDA also embraces knowledge sharing and transparency through a farmers.gov blog and an online playbook highlighting the site’s latest developments.
Thanks to Chad’s leadership, since its launch in 2018, farmers.gov has served field personnel and customers at a dramatic scale. The mobile-adaptable site consolidates more than 150 federal web resources in one place and has seen more than 1.7 million pageviews. The customer/employee portal has logged over 1.8 million customer interactions.
The farmers.gov portal services also include: an interactive View Loans application providing customers real-time access to loan payment history and balance information; a revamped tool for employees to efficiently manage Wildfires and Hurricanes Indemnity Program Plus, which provides disaster payments to producers to offset losses from natural disasters; and the Market Facilitation Program, which financially assists producers with commodities directly impacted by foreign tariffs. Over $8.7 billion in funding has been distributed, improving the lives and economic security of our nation’s farmers, ranchers and producers – who are vital to the U.S. agricultural base and to our nation’s food supply.
